Electron Cloud Mapper (ECM) draws 2-D or 3-D images of a hydrogen at any energy state.
Compatibility
System Compatibility
ECM is compatible with System 6.0.4 and higher, and is System 7 Savvy.
Apple Events
ECM only recognizes the ‘quit’ core Apple Event. However, more can be entered upon request.
Quadra/68040
ECM is compatible with the 68040’s write-through cache.
Math Coprocessors: 68881, 68882, and 68040’s
ECM uses SANE, which makes it compatible with all math coprocessors. Users of Macintoshes with a math coprocessor will notice significant speed increases.
PowerPC
ECM will be compatible with the PowerPC microprocessor in 68040 emulation mode. A native version will DEFINITELY be available soon!
Map Modes
ECM can plot the electron map in two way: scatter (probability represented by the density of dots) and color (probability represented by colors). Color mode is available only on Macintoshes with color or gray scale capabilities. Color mode results in beautiful designs!
Turbo Mode
Turbo Mode is speeds up scatter drawing time by lightening the processing load. This involves the deactivation of a few features - ‘Particle Type’, ‘Plot For Count’, ‘Plot One Point’, and ‘Sound’.
Custom Orbitals
There are three “pre-defined” orbitals, s, p and d already available. However, users can go a step further by defining their own orbitals. You may have noticed that the f orbital is not among the pre-defined ones. The f orbital as well as virtually any theoretical orbital can be obtained by defining a custom orbital.
Defining a custom orbital is extremely easy. It requires you to only specify two variables. One is the L variable which determines the orbital type such as s, p, d, f, etc. This should be any non-negative integer (whole number) as long as it does not get too large (19 or 20 is about the largest value before overflow). The second variable M has to be a non-negative integer that is less than L.

Authors
Yuxin Ruan is the original author of the PC version of ECM. However, in the middle of the project he ported it to Macintosh with the help of Kenji Takeuchi.

Updates
Updates can be obtained through online services, shareware distributers or direct from the author. Most updates after the first release version will probv only be maintenance upgrades for new System Software enhancements.
